Pi-Day 2025

On March 13, 2025, Assumption College of Davao proudly celebrated National Mathematics Day with an exciting Pi Day event at AVR2, organized by the Assumption Math Majors Society. The event centered on the theme “From Pi to Innovation: Bridging Math, Art, and Creativity,” highlighting the interconnectedness of mathematics with various disciplines.

As participants arrived, they registered their attendance, marking their participation in this insightful celebration. Emcees Regine Jacosalem and Zaira Manocdoc warmly welcomed the participants, ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout the event. The program officially began with an opening prayer and the singing of the national anthem, fostering a sense of unity and reverence. An enthusiastic opening remark from the organizers set the tone for the day, followed by an engaging intermission number by John Bryan Noble, who performed a song that energized the audience.

A major highlight of the event was the thought-provoking TED Talk, where the speaker, Jeason Atamosa, delved into the essence of mathematics and its role in fostering creativity among students. The discussion covered how mathematics extends beyond numbers and equations, serving as a tool to enhance problem-solving skills and innovative thinking. Following this intellectual segment, participants eagerly took part in the Smart Steps game, a collaborative challenge in which teams worked together to answer math-related questions presented by the quizmaster, Kristine Fanega. The dynamic exchange of ideas and teamwork in this segment emphasized the power of group learning in mathematical exploration.

The excitement escalated with the Amazing Race, a thrilling team-based competition that tested participants’ mathematical prowess and strategic thinking. Divided into three groups, they navigated through four challenging stations: solving tangrams, answering math riddles, executing precise ping-pong shots, and skillfully tossing rubber bands onto a scoring board. The game was a test of both speed and accuracy, as teams aimed to complete each station in the shortest time while maximizing their points. Laughter and camaraderie filled the air as participants strategized and raced toward victory, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.

As the event drew to a close, participants gathered for a well-deserved snack break, reflecting on the day’s activities and celebrating their shared enthusiasm for mathematics with an intermission number by Raymond Merquita, accompanied by a song.

The program concluded with heartfelt closing remarks and the Assumption Hymn, leaving everyone inspired by the boundless possibilities that mathematics offers. Pi-Day was not just a celebration of numbers—it was a testament to how mathematics, when combined with creativity and teamwork, can lead to innovation and discovery.
