At Assumption College of Davao, a Math and Science Fair was held to celebrate the learners’ aspirations to become tomorrow’s geniuses. It brought together young minds on Friday, September 29, 2023, to share their innovative works and scientific discoveries in interdisciplinary mathematics and science.
The fair included competitions such as experiments and exhibitions where high school learners were challenged to choose an experiment, conduct research, design booth displays, and produce math working models based on the theme Exploring Frontiers: Unraveling the Wonders of Mathematics and Science.
The gym was packed with students and proud and supportive teachers. While learners walked up and down the aisles of “labs” or “exhibitions,” the presenters explained their hypotheses, experiments, and results. Every station was bustled with enthusiastic learners eager to embark on an extraordinary journey.
At the event, robotics was also involved. TechFactors, the school’s robotics provider (RoboTek), designed challenges that required a small group of learners to reassemble a particular robot by following the directions provided in the manual.
The fair not only fostered a passion for interdisciplinary learning but also cultivated crucial skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. Math and Science fairs involved group projects where learners worked together to achieve a common goal. This taught them cooperation and teamwork, two important traits in any profession.
Alfred North Whitehead once said, “All science, as it grows toward perfection, becomes mathematical in its ideas.”
