“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
– Mother Teresa
With these heartfelt words as inspiration, the League of Values Education Students (LOVES) set out to make a difference through small yet meaningful actions. They embraced the belief that even the simplest gestures of love and compassion can create a lasting impact. On November 22, 2024, LOVES, along with Mr. Dandie Fernandez and Mr. Mark Buenaobra, had the remarkable opportunity to visit the SAKADAB Community, a group comprising individuals with disabilities.
The SAKADAB Community, whose name stands for “Samahan ng may Iba’t Ibang Kakayahan sa Dabaw,” comprises individuals with disabilities who have united to support one another and pursue self-reliance. Their collective efforts include skills in baking, handicrafts, woodcraft, and welding. Located in Purok 6-B7, Los Amigos, Tugbok District, Davao City, this community showcases resilience and determination in the face of challenges.
From the moment they stepped into the community, the League of Values Education Students felt an immediate sense of belonging. The strength and determination of the SAKADAB members to keep moving forward despite the challenges they face were truly admirable. Though they may have physical limitations, their spirit remains unshaken as they continue to embrace life with dignity and joy. What stood out the most was their unwavering faith in God. Their trust in Him has been their source of strength, enabling them to overcome daily obstacles. Witnessing their happiness and gratitude during the visit was truly heartwarming.
A short program took place, featuring personal stories and the history behind the community’s foundation. The third-year morning and evening classes performed an interpretative dance to the song SAKADAB, Sagisag ng Pagmamahalan, which was composed and sung by Mr. Dandie Fernandez. This heartfelt performance was followed by a shared meal, and the entire gathering emphasized the significance of human connection and the transformative power of genuine kindness.
This experience highlighted the importance of connecting with others and making them feel supported. Simply being present and offering a helping hand can create a meaningful impact, both on the lives of others and on personal growth. The SAKADAB Community has inspired a deeper sense of gratitude, a greater appreciation for life’s blessings, and a continued commitment to spreading kindness and compassion.
As reflections on this experience continue, the League of Values Education Students feel a deep sense of purpose and a renewed commitment to supporting communities like SAKADAB. Future visits are hoped for, with the intention of listening to more stories and continuing to learn from the strength and faith of the community. This visit was not just a simple outreach activity—it was a life-changing encounter that will remain in the hearts of all who participated.
Moreover, this was the song performed by the 3rd-year students.
SAKADAB, SAGISAG NG PAGMAMAHALAN
Music & Lyrics: Dandie Fernandez
Verse 1:
Hindi sa anyo nasusukat ang halaga
Kundi sa kabutihan at pagmamahal na dala
Sa mundong mapagbiro, naghihintay ang pag-asa
Panahon ng pagsubok, liwanag ay matatamasa.
Chorus:
SAKADAB, ipagdiwang ang buhay na kayganda
SAKADAB, sama-sama sa hirap at ginhawa
Kakaibang kakayahan, kakaibang karanasan
Tayo ay inspirasyon, sagisag ng pagmamahalan.
La la la la la… la la la la la la la la la la la la
Verse 2:
Halika na kaibigan, tayo ay magkwentuhan
Buhay mo at buhay ko, ay iisa lang ang pinagmulan
Sabay-sabay nating abutin ang ating mga bituin
Ang ating mga mithiin, lahat ay magniningning.
